okay, figured it out myself
in the command interpretter, with the XP CD in the drive do the following:
- type 'expand cd:\i386\*.tt_ c:\temp'
(obviously use your cd drive letter and whatever temporary folder you want.)
-use the font installer (Fonts Folder, File->Install New Font) to
browse to that temporary directory and select all.
- click through the msgs to remove old fonts first, and every font (that
comes with XP) that you deleted or got corrupted is restored!
