Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool

1.) What these are used for?
When you access Microsoft Download Center, it may perform a validation
process, to see whether your Windows is genuine, if so, you can continue to
downlod software from download center. (Please reference

2.) Do I need these for anything (i.e. Windows or Office Update -- or
something else)?

Yes, you need it to finish the random validation process in download center
to download software.

3.) How would they have gotten on my system (or does M.S. just automatically
install them)?

You will got promoted when you first time need this tool. For example, when
you want to download software from download center and meet the random
validation.

4.) If I DON'T need them, how would I remove them?

You need it, don't delete it.
