Reinstall Licensed XP from different CD

A friend of mine's computer is not booting and I have tried several suggested
solutions. We have finally decided to reinstall the operating system without
reformatting. Looking around, we find that the installation cd (an hp
reinstallation/utility cd) is missing. The HP website offers to sell us a
replacement, but my friend is impatient and doesn't want to wait for the mail.
I am considering trying to fix the problem using my copy of XP and I realize
that I might need to download drivers for his HP hardware as part of the
process.
My copy of XP is a full installation, microsoft labelled, legitimate and
activated copy which I use on my non-HP machine.

Are there any technical or legal issues with my using my XP CD and the
license number from the sticker on HIS machine, to get his machine back to
running?

Will we be able to activate such a merged installation when it is done?

Will this activation interfer with the legality my current usage of XP?

Please don't be offended, but unless you'll come to court with me when your
proven wrong, please don't offer opinions. I am looking for the letter of
the law here, not just common sense.
