ActiveX won't initiate even though enabled...

Hi,

I am a fairly competent computer user, but since using SP2, ActiveX has not
worked in IE even though it is enabled (I am positive on this) in the
Internet settings. I have set the security settings to medium and for
whatever reason (I guess extra security) I cannot set it to "low" but I did
verify that all ActiveX options are for enabled that should be.

Also, I have no ad-blockers and I disabled pop-up blocking. I also turned
off the XP SP2 firewall just to be sure that was not a factor. I do tend to
disable services I probably (or set them to manual) don't need so if one is
necessary for ActiveX then that is a possibility. I have also run Ad-Aware
(latest ad-lists) and cleaned all possible spyware.

I really don't run much on my computer in the way of add-ons that could
interfere with browsing and I have scanned my computer with two different
up-to-date virus scanners. Actually, the websites that I want to work are
online virus scanners that use ActiveX and because of this problem, I cannot,
so it is very important that I solve this problem. I have no other computer
issues at this time, so mainly the ActiveX is the problem, and I see other
SP2 users also face similar problems. And I would very much like to do a
/scannow with a XP/SP2 cd but I cannot use my MSDN subscription to download
it because ActiveX doesn't work! So I really could use some help!

Thanks in advance,
Andrew
