1) Use a firewall - hardware is best (router), Windows
built-in is better than nothing,
2) Keep your anti-virus software up-to-date and scan your
system from time to time,
3) Use anti-spyware programs like Adaware SE and SpyBot

4) If all else fails, hire a professional to analyze your
system and to recommend additional steps.
