Many thanks for your helpful response. The problems described below began
after installing NIS 2005. BTW, upon installing NIS, I disabled the Windows
firewall and enabled the NIS firewall. The problem is primarily with
connection and email. Sometimes I cannot connect to the internet. Other
times, I can connect to the internet and can navigate on the web, but I
cannot send or receive email in Outlook. My outgoing email is customarily
dumped in the Outbox. Sometimes it will send automatically later, sometimes
it sits there. I can sometimes correct the email situation and connection
problems temporarily by restarting the computer, sometimes by pulling the
power to the cable modem, the router and turning off the computer, then
after a minute or so reconnecting the power to the modem, then the router,
then turning on the computer. Sometimes this helps, sometimes it does not. I
thought my problem could be the modem or the server. I called Comcast and
worked with them. They installed a new modem, which we tested by plugging
the modem directly to my computer, bypassing the router. The problems were
not cured. BTW I can send and receive webmail from the Comcast web site with
no difficulty. The problem does not seem to be with the server. I have a
problem with the NIS Antispam feature. When I go to the Norton Antispam
Folder, select an email and click on "This is not Spam," a window comes up
labeled "Initializing," then it freezes. I can get out of the freeze only
with a Cntrl-Alt-Del. I have reinstalled NIS 2005, but the same problems
recur.
Any observations or advice would be most appreciated. If I can't clear the
problems by Monday, I will probably uninstall NIS 2005 and ask for a refund.
