If the disc can be read by the computer that it was created on then the data
isn't lost. What program or means did you use to "record" the assignment to
CD? Did you use a program like Nero or Easy CD Creator? Or did you use
packet writing software to preformat the disc and then save the assignment
directly from within the program you created it with? For example where you
able to save the file directly from Microsoft Word to the CD? If so then the
disc was preformatted with packet writing software.

First check into the program that RayJay suggested. ISO Buster
http://www.smart-projects.net/ can read raw data so if the disc is in some
way damaged you can usually retrieve info off it.

You might also want to look to see if anything here applies to you

| I have recorded all of an assignment on a cd as I have worked on it.
Tonight
| when I put it into my computor instead of starting up as normal it put up
a
| message, disc is not formatted. What does this mean, where has my
assignment
| gone, can I retrieve it? I did nothing except bring the disc home from
uni
| with me.
