As a more direct response to the question, I have used System Mechanic for
several years now and have never had a problem. Based upon that I wopuild
say Registry Mechanic is as good a product of the type as any.

Even although I do use System Mechanic to remove redundant entries in the
Registry, I also subscribe to the view that redundant entries do no harm and
do not 'slow' the machine down in any significant way (the debate over
millisecs is plainly stupid). System Mechanic does backup the Registry if
you use it to remove entries so it is 'self healing' in the event of a
problem but I also use ERUNT to backup the Registry as I believe everyone
should.
