Mary,

There should be an Advanced checkmark box in the search
options. I think XP might try hiding it on you.

If you put a checkmark into it, it'll open a little drop-down
deal where you can put a check mark into:

Search system folders
Search hidden files and folders
Search Subfolders

Make sure all three of those items are checked and that will
fix the problem you are seeing.

Also, if that doesn't seem right, let us know. You might have
to put the Search behaviour in Classic mode/view.

Hope that helps. Happy holidays.

My computer has notepad.exe, but the "file search function" which is
built-in in winxp can't search it.
eg.
Start->Search, then
type "notepad.exe" search from "c:" -> no result.
type "notepad.exe" search from "c:\windows" -> have result.
is it bug of all or just my windows ? =.="
