Hi,
You are confusing System Restore with the Scanreg /restore function from
Win9x. System Restore preserves more than just the registry, and the number
of backups is determined by the size of your system, the allotted disk
space, and the frequency of changes. You can reduce this by going to the
control panel/system/system restore tab and reducing the amount of space
allotted to this function.
