Hi,

My brother's PC(XP Home) has a problem when Logon is attempted..

When I boot the machine, I'm presented with a Logon prompt to enter
the password. When I supply the password the system responds:

Logon Message
"The system cannot log you on due to the following error:
The program issued a command but the command length is incorrect."

Note that this machine has always been configured to boot straight in
to Windows without prompting for a password. Also, I tried booting into
Safe Mode and logging on under both his account and as Administrator
using the default password: blank. The same Logon message appears,
"... The program issued a command but the command length is incorrect"

The problem prevents all logon attempts!

The last thing that was done to the machine before this issue, was a Windows
Update scan/download/install of the 4 critical patches that were released on
Tue. 12/14. The W.U. scan was unusual because it indicated that SP2 was also
needed. (I had installed SP2 from the MS SP2 disk last week.) Also unusual was
the 4 critical updates recomended seemed to have no payload, ie the file
sizes of the patches indicated a size of 0 kb.

I've searched this forum to see if others were reporting this problem and I
did find other posts reffering to "The program issued a command
but the command length is incorrect" message when attempting to logon.
No-one however, had posted a solution to the problem.

 PS.

I did a major cleanup/housekeeping job before installing SP2 last week.
Antivirus Scans using AVG, AdawareSE, Spybot 1.3, cleanup of temp and cache.
and defrag of the hard disk. I also created a fresh system restore point.

              Please Help, and Thank's Frank
