You are playing the wrong note, Robert. :)
The Security Center only reports the three main security features, the FW is
on or off, the Automatic Updates are on or off, and the Av is running or not
and the status for those it knows about.
If you set all the settings to off or self monitored you would never see the
security center. But franky, it is such a nit of an issue to have it on as a
warning feature if you have all the items turned on.
Your concern for Automatic Updates messing up your computer is not much of
an issue after the SP2 is installed.(And is not affected by the security
center at all.) I have downloaded and installed Net 1.1 SP1 and a couple of
others post SP2. Other than that I have only recieved the lastest OE
security updates via WAU. I watched as they downloaded, it said they were
nn% done, then it verified the download, then it installed them.
You can trun it off and stop the service, but security issues, or WAU issues
or computer problems will not be affected at all. You will only lose a once
in a needed while warning screen that the system is exposed or vulnerable.
