I have cleaned computer with quite a few different viruses and over 1000
infected files adaware 2000+.

You need to boot to safe mode and make sure you are scanning all files and
folders as well as archive (zip) files turn off system restore and run disk
cleanup to get rid off all your temp files and empty your recycle bin will
make the scans quicker.

You may need to scan a couple of times to get all of the viruses as some
viruses hide others.

It takes time to clean a computer up but just let it run. I have spent 9-10
hours scanning computers to clean viruses.

In my 8 years doing computer support I have never needed to do a reinstall

What AV software are you using?
