That may be a good indication that the device wasn't unplugged correctly. Some
USB devices must be unplugged using the icon or hardware wizard, if not then the
system acts as you describe.

Yours may or may not need this dismount procedure. Please check your camera
owner's manual for this requirement.

Then again, this could be another one of those mysterious SP2 hiccups.
