Well you've experienced one good reason not to turn off SR. Besides,
there is no reason why it should slow down performance. SR is scheduled
to make a restore every 24 hours but only when the system has been
inactive so that doesn't slow anything down. In SR settings decrease
the amount of HD space allocated to it. It's set to 12% of the space or
something like that. Turn it down to hold a max of 2 to 3 weeks worth.
Maybe someone else will jump in on restoring your fonts. I don't tool
around in there and make changes I can't recover from, so I haven't had
your problem.
