I want to prevent mcafee virus scanner and spamkiller from loading at startup
while I try a set of security programs provided by F secure through my ISP.

I do not want to delete these programs from add / remove programs. When I
use msconfig and remove the programs check mark in startup and reboot the
machine I get a message that says the computer has restarted in diagnostic
mode as opposed to normal mode. Is this normal? When I am in msconfig and
remove the program in startup and then go back to the general tab the
computer shows diagonstic mode, if I click normal and go back to startup the
check reappears beside the program that I deleted. I am not at all sure if
this is normal.

Is msconfig the only way to remove programs that load at startup?

Thanks in advance
