That sounds like a mixed network.
You can go from the laptop thru the desktop to the router

or

they both go thru the router

But a mixed network would need the laptop to make individual network
connections.
One to a nic to the dsktop and one to the wireless router.
So maybe it's just a subnet and mask setting needing to be different
i.e. 192.168.0.x and 90.0.0.x
Since the ICS and the router default to both 192.168.0.x
maybe the router can be changed to 90.0.0.x
