awesome man, thank you so much for that great response. i'm going to give all
of that a check.

by the way, another poster advised me to check something out. here's a copy of
the post and the results of what he recommend me trying... read below:

------------------------------------------------------------

>Do the files show up on your desktop if you open a command prompt?
>
>C:\Documents and Settings\profile name\Desktop>dir /w

hey thanks for the reply. i tried doing what you suggested. no the files do
not show up.

When i run the command here's what happens...

C:\Documents and Settings\Wilcorvic\Desktop>dir /w
Volume in Drive C is LOCAL DISC
Volume Serial Number is 6CD0-800E

Directory of C:\Documents and Settings\Wilcorvic\Desktop

File Not Found

After this is performed a little yellow triangle with an exclamation point in
the middle pops up and appears in the lower left hand corner of my taskbar by
the time. when i go there to try to hover over it with my mouse or click on
it, it disappears.

GRRRR i swear i will not sleep until i find out what is causing this problem.

the only other thing i can think of besides System Mechanic Pro and it doing
something to my registry, is a couple of days ago a friend and i were trying to
figure out how to connect remotely using MSN desktop remote. I think i fooled
around with some settings trying to allow access to my desktop and file
sharing. maybe this could be a problem? not sure...

Grrr oh well

well thanks for the advice, maybe this can shed some more light on the problem.
please reply and let me know if this tells you anything.

Thanks,
Greg
