I believe I posted this problem/question a couple of days ago. And thank you
to those that have emailed me. I still haven't found a solution. This is a
very weird problem I am having. I can't remember which newsgroups I posted
this question to, so this time I have bookmark them on my AOL bookmarks.
Sorry.
The problem is.... Anything I seem to download and save to my desktop, will
strangely disappear. Especially pictures. For example, to test the problem, I
just saved a *.jpg file from the Internet to my desktop, and nothing appeared.
So then I did a search on my system to see if I could find that file. Nothing
showed up
All files just mysteriously disappear once saved/downloaded to the desktop. I
can't see them on the desktop itself or in my desktop folder using Windows
Explorer.
The only thing I can think of that might have caused this problem was a program
I used called System Mechanic 5 Professional trail version. Unfortunately, I
uninstalled this program before I even knew of this problem I was having. So
there was no way I could back up my registry/settings through the program
because I believe there was an option to do so through this program. But it's
too late now.
I tried to roll back to a restore point, but it won't let me rollback to any
date, I guess obviously because I never made a restore point.
This isn't a real serious problem, because I can always save my files to any
other folder. But it's bugging me to death because I don't know if you're like
me but it bugs me to death if there's a problem that I can't fix on my PC.
I'm hoping that there is somebody out there that has had this problem before
and maybe can suggest a solution for me. I've searched the Internet for
answers and I have searched the Microsoft site for answers, but to no avail.
I'm thinking it probably has something to do with my registry. I downloaded
System Mechanic Pro again to see if it could fix the problem but it didn't
work. I just bought Norton's Systemworks 2005 and I'm going to see if maybe if
it can fix the problem. Wish me luck. I guess the only other thing I can
think of doing is just reinstalling Windows XP.
By the way I am using Windows XP with SP 2.
Thanks for reading my post and sorry for any misspellingsor bad use of grammar.
English isn't my first language lol.
Take care,
Greg
