I am having the exact same problem. In my case, laptop came with XP and
it has not been upgraded. Started a few months ago, is intermittent.
Very frustrating. Sometimes I can see kind of ghosted image of
minimized program restoring, but it doesn't come to the fore ground so
I can't get to it. I'm going to run the fix script link below and see
what happens.
