My neighbor has a Dell Computer with windows XP Prof (SP2) installed. He
is now getting the "NTLDR is Missing" error message when he boots up the
computer. After some research for him, I found the MS Article ID 320397 and
it appears that his MFT root folder is severely fragmented. This article
suggested a contact with MS to obtain the Bcupdate2 utility to resolve this
problem. I did contact MS tech support and it was suggested not to use this
utility (as I understood it, this was because it was still a work in
progress). Instead it was suggested that the following commands be used.
a. Reboot with the windows XP Prof CD in the CD-ROM
b. Assess the Recovery Console
c. Type in: Bootcfg (space) /rebuild and then press Enter
d. Type in: Exit and Press Enter
Because of a poor telephone connection, I want to make sure that I did hear
and copy down the correct command to resolve the problem as mentioned in the
MS Article mentioned above (Title: You receive an "NTLDR is missing error
message when you start you computer). Any help would be very much
appreciated, Sam.
