I created a backup while running the OS and it had problems when I
went to write it to a new disk. I thought it might be `cleaner' to
copy a disk when it is not booted. When no read/write is happening.

And certainly if you wanted to clone one drive over another you would
not want the latter to be booted and running. So I can imagine
several scenarios where one would want rescue mode to work from.

Seem like all the basic tools should be availbable there too.
