Do you have anything in the floppy or CD-ROM drives? If so, remove it
and reboot. If the drives are empty and/or the error continues, is your
hard drive seen in the BIOS? If not, you have a hardware failure. The
age of the computer is irrelevant. You asked about Safe Mode - can you
actually get into Safe Mode (repeatedly tap F8 as the computer is
starting up). If you can get into Safe Mode, then the issue is not
hardware with your drive or motherboard. Please let us know exactly
when you get the error, if you are able to boot into Safe Mode, and if
your hard drive appears in the BIOS.
