They are in the hidden, protected folder 'System Volume information' on
each drive. In a folder in that there are a set of RPnnn folders that
each contain the components stored in a specific point.

Leave them strictly alone if you do not want to foul up SR. If it gets
into trouble, disable it, reboot, delete *all* the files in that folder
and start over. On an NTFS drive you will need to 'Take Ownership' of
the folder before you can delete the contents - or even see them in
Explorer
