Sorry to disappoint you Master Thrasher, but none of that will be necessary.
Call Microsoft (an Activate by Phone option should allow you to select your
country and then supply you with the proper phone number). The system is a
bit of a pain and is completely automated, right up to the point where (five
minutes into your call) you get to speak to a live operator (in Bangalor,
India) and repeat everything you told the machine. HOWEVER, at the end of it
all, you will tell them that you had to reinstall due to system crash and
replaced hardware, and they will give you a code to unlock and activate.
