Interesting!
I had two scanners, one Canon flatbed, one PrimeFilm for 35mm slides,
installed on my HP running XP Pro. Both were connected to USB ports. I
never turned on both of them at the same time, but each one worked if I
turned it on.

I have just installed an HP all-in-one, which is usually turned on all
the time. I have not yet checked to see whether the two scanners
conflict, although I do not see a problem with turning off the
all-in-one when I want to scan a slide, if necessary.

I note the KB article states "may not" rather than "cannot" in the
symptoms section.
