Although it's not a bad idea to do as you suggest, it's important
to realize that a virus in a restore point is completely
innocuous and can't do any harm unless you restore from that
restore point.

Doing what you suggest is fine, but it's equally good, if you
know which restore points contain the virus, not to do so, and
just make sure that if you ever use a restore point, that one
with the virus isn't used. However, the latter course requires
great care, and unless you're very careful to keep track of where
the virus is and where it isn't, doing as you suggest may be a
better choice for many people.

So I'm not disagreeing with you, just pointing out that if you're
sufficiently careful, it isn't strictly necessary.

However, this isn't Rose2001's issue, which is getting rid of the
primary infection, not just restore points which contain it.
System Restore is not the tool to do that, as I said.
