That sounds to me as if you are either stretching outside the limits the
monitor can safely handle - or it *thinks* that you are. Check in
Display - Settings - Advanced - Monitor page that it is the right
monitor, and that you do not have 'Hide modes that this monitor cannot
display' checked. Now on the Adapter page check 'List all modes' and
choose one at a refresh rate conservatively inside its specs
