To add to the debate, I personally much prefer to type my own answers to
posts. The only links i generally use are to my own website, where i may
have gone into a little more detail.
Unfortunately, you cannot always give 'short' answers, particularly when you
have to give a list of instructions. But, to me, replying to a post by
typing a sufficient reply is more personal than saying 'here is the link, go
find it yourself.'
MVP's are not paid or employed by Microsoft. if we make a mistake, and i
admit i have made a few, we take the flack ourselves Microsoft do not under
any circumstances come to our aid.
Newsgroups are like web sites they rely upon returning visitor. If 'we' as a
community give consistant help and advice there is every likelihood of that
same person returning for further advice in the future. It should always be
remembered that it is the 'people with problems' that keep the newsgroups
going not the other way round.
Regardless of how long the post, it beats a simple link anyday. And just as
an afterthought, if i don't know the answer to the question posted i do not
and will not make any attempt at answering it. We all have our area of
expertise, the problems start when we try being a jack of all trades and
master of none.
