How about this one, Drew: because I couldn't find anyone at HP Parts, Hp
Sales, or HP Tech support to come up with the part number for a hard
drive cage to hold a second hard drive, I ended up talking to an idiot
posing as a case manager at HP Corporate, Menlo Park. He had the gall
to tell me that HP doesn't support putting a second hard drive into
their computers! I countered with the obvious: millions of PC's are out
there with multiple hard drives, AND the upgrade manual that came with
my new Pavilion had 2 pages of instructions for adding a second hard
drive. Part of those instructions tell the user to obtain a "cage" for
mounting the second drive, if one is not already installed. It took me
2 weeks and 3+ hours of phone calls to get the correct part number. The
person that helped me was a SENIOR case manager...
Armed with the part number I called the Parts people back and lo and
behold, they said that part number was good, it was back ordered, but
expected to ship in 2 days anyway. I received the part within a week
and all is well with respect to my 2nd hard drive installation.

Moral of the story: tech support is bad, and getting worse with each
passing year. I'm more likely than not to get bogus answers to any
computer related questions.

Another example: I have an Athlon 64, which doesn't run at 100% speed
unless it needs to. I didn't know it would "idle" so was concerned when
the speed showed up as 997Mhz instead of 2.0 Ghz under My Computer,
Properties. I called AMD and the guy there said it sounded like a
Windows issue. He said nothing about the variable speed feature of the
64. so I went back to Circuit city to see what the other HP PC's showed
for their speeds. Some read full speed and some showed slower, like
mine. I decided to investigate the matter further upon returning home,
and wouldn't you know it, as soon as the PC is given something useful to
do, like play a movie, the speed comes up to 2.0 Ghz. I then went to
the AMD web site and read up on the 64's features. Sigh...
