Icons disappear & Windows XP hangs at start up

When I leave my computer on and walk away for 15 mins. the icons dosappear
off the desk top and can't be retreaved. I can push the off button on the
compture and shut down the computer. Then I can restart it again. Does anyone
have any idea what is going on and how to fix it?

Aslo when I start the computer up the OS likes to hang at the Windows logo
with the bar moving across the screen. The hard drive doesn't blink and the
thing just sits there. I have tried reformatting the drive and repairing the
OS. But the problems persist. Does anyone have any idea what is going on and
how to fix it?
