Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2)

After recently downloading Windows XP Service Pack 2
(SP2), some programs just don't work. I can't go on the
internet or any instant messenger programs (even though i
turned off the firewall.. OFF!) I also can't open up my
control panel or my computer. I can't even "restore to a
previous date." None of these programs open up when i
double click on them!
I don't know what to do. Could someone please please,
pretty please help me fix the problem!!!! :)
