I had the same problem...but my problem occurred after loading a ghosted
image...It's just a thought but try removing NERO, I think you said that you
can boot into "Safe Mode" - you can see a post from me today at "?? SP2 ?? -
Problems - Hopefully the 4th time will be a charm." all indications that
I've found seem to indicate my problem is caused by Nero so it leads me to
think that Nero doesn't play nice with XP SP2... will post once I finish my
5th attempt at installing WinXP Nero will not be loaded.
