XP Service Pack 2

Earlier today I had one of those error messages asking me if I wanted to send
this error information to Microsoft. I always click on yes. After the error
message was sent I received an update message telling me I should download
and install the new XP Service Pack 2 to upgrade my operating system which is
XP. How important is it to do this? I've gone to the site and looked up the
list of files that will be updated but I don't understand any of that
information.
I did see something that was related to the ability of Windows to recognise
a drive but not the media in that drive. I've had a lot of trouble with the
media in my CD-rom not being able to be read if it's written on a different
CD-rom. Even though I read this artical it refers to a tape drive and not a
CD drive. Will installing this 'fix' file enable the media in my CD-rom to be
able to now read the CD that was burned on a different CD-rom?
I'm afraid to download and install the entire Pack 2 because I seem to have
different problems after installing available upgrades on my system. For
instance, after downloading the lastest files for OutExpress I could no
longer use email stationery with flying gifs. They only show up as little red
x's now. I didn't have that problem before downloading the upgrade, which you
would think, would have all of the bugs worked out. I still can't use that
kind of stationery.
Please advise so I know what I should upgrade and what I shouldn't. Thanks
for your help.
Linda
