I am working with a laptop that, after the desktop finishes loading, just
sits and will not respond to any commands to launch programs. Spyhunter &
Ad-Aware scans run in safe mode yeild no parasites. Norton AV 2002 will not
run, so, thinking it was corrupt, I managed to load Norton Internet Security
2004. During the pre-load scan, no viruses turned up. I had previously pulled
quite a bit of spyware off the machine, thinking that would free up some
resources, but very little has changed in terms of performance. If I put a
2nd intallation of XP on this unit, will I be able to salvage the data from
it (share it to another machine, perhaps) before I format and re-install? If
so, what is the best way to perform a dual - boot installation?
