Thanks for your input Don, I have been searching for a week for a fix, as
you say there does not appear to be one as yet. How ever, I have done my own
"work around" which seems to have done the trick. After creating an Image of
my root drive, I did something most might find strange.
First, I use the winxp pro CD to do a repair installation without first
removing SP2, which I suppose takes it back to before SP1, I did not use the
repair option in the Recovery console, but the second repair option.
Second, I had some trouble with USB2 controllers, but worked that out. Then
reinstalled SP2 (from the free CD) over the top of all that. Had a good
clear out of any junk I could find as a result of all that, and now my
system is running sweet as a nut.
This is not a fix, and I will keep looking for a fix, but it is better than
a reinstall and all my software and hardware is working fine, nothing lost,
no software, no files, nadda. I dont believe this is a Windows Explorer
problem at all, something else is happening here, but I cannot be sure of
that.
Thanks for your help, And I hope my input will help point someone cleverer
than me in the right direction for a proper solution.
