The vulnerabilities that IE exposes are in your OS
whether you use IE or not as your browser, at least
as far as my limited understanding goes.

It's true that you should be protected from things
that are known problems with IE if you use
an alternative browser while online,
but most viruses are past that now, attacking the vulnerabilities
directly even if you're not actively using IE.
