Missing "Icons" in IE6

Some web pages I visit have a small square with a cross in them rather than
what I suspect should be an identifying icon.
Presumably I have turned some option off unintentionally - can anyone
advise. (Show pictures is ticked)
I'm on XP Pro SP1 (& some SP2 bits but not the full thing yet), IE6, Zone
Alarm Security Suite
