Running XP professional SP2

all of a sudden I cannot get any of my videos to play. WIll not play in
Media player 10, Winamp, Real Player etc. Each of the programs goes through
the motions of playing the video, the progress slide moves but the screen is
BLANK/ Same thing for videos embedded in Powerpoint.

I must have lost something at the "system" level for it to impact all of
these players. What could it be and how do I try to repair.

Thanks
