I had problems like that when my power supply started to go. It could not
properly power my ATI Radon AGP card. Had to temporiarly pull the video
card to keep the system stable.
Other things things to check are the video card, make sure that it is not
overheating and reseting it self. It is also possibly that the CPU is
overheating. What is the air flow like in your machine? Are all the fans
working correctly?
