IIRC. the answer is No, and you if you want to recover any of the data, you
must stop using that disk *immediately*. I had a relatively similar
calamity recently, and managed to recover *all* data from the damaged
(removed) partition, using RT Studio.
If this has happened to the base drive in your system, remove the drive and
put it in another machine that has XP installed and more than enough drive
space to take the entire contents of the damaged partition. Install the
recovery app on that system. You might be best to get a new bare drive to
receive the recovered files.
This app is small, fits easily on a diskette or USB key. There are
versions for FAT32 and NTFS or both with IIRC E2FS as well. It's not
expensive (given the options) and can be purchased online.

There is a demo that will tell you if the files are recoverable and can save
the drive scan, but teh demo cannot recover more than the smallest files.
However, as the scan results are what you really want to know, and can take
hours, saving the scan is a great help. If the demo will do it, purchase
the version you need (unless you get the multiple filesystem version you
cannot recover and wtite to different disk formats, so fat>fat or
NTFS>NTFS). Use the emailed install key to activate it. Open the saved
scan and start the recovery. It will probably take several hours.
Note that this can recover rather a lot of unexpected stuff - any leftover
deleted files, including ones removed from the recycle bin can be recovered.
You'll have quite a bit of stuff to wade through.
