I am changing from dial-up to ADSL and havingproblems. The IP address is
supplied by my ISP - I have the settings as 'automatically detect'. Problem
is, the modem connects for a few minutes then overwrites the IP address with
another 'default' one. This means the modem shows I have a connection, the
computer thinks I have a connection but it is pointing to the wrong IP
address. I have contacted my ISP but they say it is a software issue. Any
ideas where Win XP would store a default IP address -> somebody suggested
that virus protection software (I run McAfees) or Firewall Software (only Win
XP) could be doing it.
