Part of the problem here, is your usage of terms.

if I understand you correctly, you want to transfer XP
system files from one partition to an existing XP install
on another partition, I'd say NO!

System files (some of them) are expecting to be found in a
specific area on a specified HD, move them to a different
hd and they won't function.
I suggest with all this moving about, your creating more
problems then your solving, don't move a thing, leave as
is, till your ready for the new larger hd, and do a clean
install, (make backups of your data first).

it's best to keep it simple.
