I haven't figured out what "user profile is corrupted" might really
mean. The second user working must be a clue about what the real
problem is and maybe that could even be the key to help someone
track down the real cause and see a fix for many folks having this
problem. But I have not seen a single posting that indicates anyone
has done this or even that anybody is interested in trying to track
down the real cause and provide a fix. If I was still writing
software for a living I'd kill for a completely reproducible bug
where a single tiny change would make the bug appear and disappear
and appear and disappear on one machine I could get my hands on.

It is nice that the work-arounds might let you get by for a little
while. But having scanned tens of thousands of postings I'm getting
the feeling that the majority of folks with "the windows explorer
problem" don't get a fix. A VERY few actually report that a
virus/spyware scan fixed it for them. A VERY few actually report
that disabling a shell extensition fixed it for them. A VERY few
report that Divx did it. Maybe for some reformatting the drive and
reinstalling fixes it. But it looks like most of the people with
this problem aren't getting any fix, or even any interest in a fix.
