The diagnostic utility has its own operating system on the floppy disk -
called DOS. As long as the floppy drive works, and the computer mother board
is OK, you will likely be able to boot from the floppy and run the
diagnostics on the hard drive. You don't even need to have an operating
system on the computer to use this utility.
