After SP2 installation the ethernet network adapter (realtek 8139 based,
embedded in an acer mb) was no more listed in the hardware devices and in
Network connections. There were no way to change parameters (ip address,
gateway,...) with the property window, but only changing the registry. The
lan connection WAS working as before.
This issue didn't seem related to the to adapter driver, we disabled the
adapter in the bios and installed a PCI adapter (with a different chipset),
with the same problem. The OS found the adapter and install it (New hardware
found...), and it is activated (with DHCP), but is not listed in the
hardware devices or in network connections.
We tried to apply suggestion in KB article "825826 - How to
troubleshoot missing network connections icons in Windows Server 2003 and in
Windows XP", with no result.
SP2 uninstall didn't solve the problem (no changes, no more network
adapters..), so the only way to get working the PC was using Restore
Configuration utility.
Do you have any suggestion?
Thanks
