That's OK, don't apologize. I'd certainly rather you asked and maybe got
your problem resolved then kept steely silence. Restart the computer
and as it is starting up tap the F8 key repeatedly. This will bring you
to a menu where you can choose Safe Mode (and other choices, but Safe
Mode is what you want). If the computer successfully gets into Safe
Mode, you should be presented with a choice of Administrator and your
regular account. Choose Administrator. The default password is blank,
so just hit [Enter]. Once loaded, you'll get a dialog box saying
something like "Windows is running in Safe Mode...". Click OK because
you *know* that - you chose that option! Now go to the Users applet in
Control Panel and take the choice to Create an account. Don't name it
exactly the same as your old, troublesome one, but name it something
you won't mind using. If everything is going well, you might want to
copy over your data from the old user account (from My Documents, etc.)
to the new account. Then you can delete the old user account.
There is an easy way to copy all of the old user account settings, but
because you were having problems with it, I don't think I'd do that.
Anyway, after all this if none of the above worked and you can't get
into Safe Mode, there are other issues. Post back to this thread with
details about what happened - write down the text of any error
messages, etc. - and we'll take it from there.
Cheers,
Malke
