hp cd-writer

I have recieved a CD that shows 0 bytes free space and 0 bytes total size.
When I put it on my old PC (98) it showed 656 bytes used a 0 free bytes. In
both cases nothing showed in the window. Can I do something to able this CD
to be compatable with my XP?
