Dear Rock,
You were absolutely right, the download from NVIDIA's
site came to the rescue. I am not sure if I had NAV2005
running with autoprotection on when I tried the update.
Anyway, it did not warn about it whereas NVIDIA's update
does so.
In what follows you can find the thread of messages I've
exchanged with the Microsoft support service, to reach to
the same conclusion as yours.
Thanks for your kind support too.
Jose
================== THREAD START =========================
Problem Description: Dear Benjamin,
Thank you very much for you time, your attention and last
but not least, the unvaluable and kind support.
The download from NVIDIA site as you have indicated
worked just fine!
Recalling the reported incident, I am not sure now if by
the time I faced the problem I had already installed
Symantec's Norton Antivirus 2005 in my system. According
to NVIDIA site instructions, anti-virus software must be
disabled before driver installation. I failed to notice
such warning from the version I downloaded from
WinUpdate. The version downloaded from NVIDIA explicitly
warns the user about this issue. I disabled auto-
protection from NAV2005 and the installation runned
smoothly.
By the way, the NVIDIA driver is very nice and worth of
the workaround. It adds a lot of functionality to the
desktop.
Thanking you very much once again, I would like to close
this messge with my most sincere compliments for such
support service from Microsoft. Keep it on like that!
Sincerely,
Jose Luis
