Screwed up PC

After installing XP SP2 I get a blue screen "winver"
error, After spending way to many hours on the phone with
Dell and going through Microsofts online help I am stuck
at the following point:

1. I can't use recovery console because it is asking for
an admin. password that I don't think I ever set and it's
not just hitting enter as Dell says it is,

2. I can't use XP re-install/repair option because XP is
not recognizing any of the 3 partitions as an XP partition.

I have pulled the drive out and have set it as a slave
drive in my old computer and can see all the data however
I have 4 distinct desktops set up so my kids can't mess
with mine and my wifes files. Two of these desktops are
passsord protected so I'm denied access to the files on
the new srewed up drive but have no problem getting my
kids files.

Any suggestions ????
